CAPABILITIES

Metallurgical Laboratories

FPM's metallurgical laboratories are staffed by licensed, degreed metallurgists, material scientists and highly trained personnel. The laboratories are responsible for measuring and verifying critical characteristics of components, ensuring compliance with customer specific requirements and applicable industry specifications.

The laboratories are equipped to perform not only the traditional sectioning, mounting polishing, and qualitative as well as quantitative microstructural evaluations but, are also capable of performing varying degrees of failure analysis, alloy identification and non-destructive evaluations. These capabilities enhance our ability to provide metallurgical design support and prototype process development for our customers.

Laboratory capabilities include:

  • Metallurgical Sample Preparation
  • Micro-indentation hardness testing (Knoop, Vickers)
  • Hardness Testing (Rockwell, Macro-Vickers)
  • Optical Microscopy
  • Alloy Identification
    • Spark testing
    • Carbon analysis
    • Optical Emission Spectrometry (OES)
  • Non-Destructive Testing
    • Liquid Die Penetrant
